Model Number: RGM-96Xs
Designation: EFSF Mass Production Special Operations & Escort Use Mobile Suit
You can't go wrong with the Jesta!
An updated production model of the RGM-96 Jesta general purpose mobile suit, the Jesta Type-S had enhanced thrust and dexterity thanks to improved vernier banks on the back of its powerful legs. The Type-S also mounted a NVG-style sighting device on its helmet, granting it greater precision targeting capabilities, especially when used in conjunction with the tripod-mounted mega beam launcher. This weapon - derived from the ReZEL series of transformable mobile suits - allowed Jesta teams to project heavy beam firepower from long range and was usually deployed for siege or anti-ship warfare.
The Jesta Type-S was typically deployed with two weapons: the standard beam carbine as well as a variable hyper launcher. The latter was used by the Shezarr Team in Operation Phoenix Hunt, although the capture round used failed to have any effect on the intended target. The launcher was modified after the operation to fire either large-caliber armour-piercing sabot rounds or anti-personnel ammunition. The scope on the Type-S allowed the mobile suit to accurately hit high speed targets that were otherwise untouchable. While the offensive rounds proved effective against adversaries, the launcher was limited to firing only a single round before necessitating a reload.
A formidable machine in its own right, the Jesta Type-S was however an escort unit for another Federation mobile suit. Similar to the regular Jestas fielded during the Laplace Incident, the Type-S was meant to create situations on the battlefield that allowed the mobile suit being escorted to deploy its full potential. A year after the Phenex appeared in the Earth Sphere, the Jesta Type-S soared into battle alongside the Federation's latest psychoframe weapon: the RX-98 "Manticore".
