Designation: Titans Test Team Prototype Research & Development Use Mobile Suit
#CircuitBreakerBacklogChallenge Build #1 - the Narrative Gundam C-Packs had to get its design cues from somewhere.
Build Background
As most of you may know, Singapore has instituted a nation-wide #CircuitBreaker to stem community transmission of the COVID-19 pandemic. This essentially means that most workplaces, schools and entertainment venues are closed from 7 April 2020 to 4 May 2020, save for essential services. That pretty much means that Singaporeans have nowhere to go except to stay home.
To make the most of the situation, builders can take this "break" from the daily grind to clear their backlogs. In fact, builders are one of the groups most well-equipped and ready to remain home for weeks on end. To make things a little more interesting for us, I started the #CircuitBreakerBacklogChallenge for builders to share their builds during this period, and this Narrative Gundam is build #1.
Fictional Lore
The Titans - the elite counter-insurgency arm of the EFSF - had a vested, militaristic interest in the potential of the supermaterial codenamed "Psychoframe", the war-waging applications of which dovetailed cleanly with the Titans' clandestine research into Newtypes.
To accelerate the development of the Psycho Gundam series of Newtype weapons, the Titans applied political pressure on Anaheim Electronics to provide a suitable machine to conduct live field tests for the Psychoframe. This machine came in the form of a variant of the RX-9 Narrative Gundam, developed by AE to be used as a testbed machine for the then-unnamed RX-93 Nu Gundam. Due to its prototype developmental nature, the Narrative bore a distinctively skeletal structure with easily-swappable modular systems and technical components.
The Narrative Gundam was assigned to the Titans Test Team, specifically to a less-overt sub-branch that advocated for the "trial by fire" methodology of gathering mobile suit performance data: putting prototype machines through actual combat situations and assessing the results.
Repainted into the formation's identifying colours, the Narrative was then fitted with sections of Psychoframe all over its airframe. The haphazard nature of the Psychoframe placement was due to the novel nature of the material and TTT technicians basically plastered the Narrative with psychoframe parts over key sections of the mobile suit to test their effects on response time and sensitivity, especially when paired with Newtype control systems.
The Narrative was assigned a Cyber Newtype and deployed into combat with a rudimentary Psychoframe-equipped shield booster and a heavy beam rifle first used by the RX-124 Gundam TR-6 [Hazel II]. Right off the bat, the so-called Psycho Package showed immense promise across all fronts, boasting stellar performance ratings, exceptional output levels and incredible response speed. Coupled with the pilot's artificially-induced Newtype abilities, the Narrative was able to evade intense capital ship barrages, shoot targets down with pinpoint accuracy, achieve near inhuman velocities and was even recorded to gain control of Funnel-type weapons for a short period of time.
In one encounter, the Narrative went toe-to-toe with a squadron of Neo Zeon Bawoos. With its Psychoframe resonating an intense pink, the Narrative quickly made short work of the enemy machines, skewering a pair with one blast from the heavy beam rifle and finishing the last one with a beam saber through the cockpit at point-blank range. The Bawoos could not even fire off a single shot.
While the mobile suit's performance checked all of the Titans' boxes, the effects it had on the pilot proved to be the deal breaker. The immense G-forces exerted on the pilot during combat manveurs exacted lethal tolls, with the Narrative burning through at least three Cyber Newtypes through its testing run.
The Narrative was eventually stripped of its Psychoframe material and mothballed in an undisclosed Titans storage facility, but its performance data had a hand in the deployment of the MRX-013-3 Psycho Gundam Mk-IV G-Doors (specifically its Psycho Plates), the RX-93 Nu Gundam, the RX-0 Unicorn Gundam series and a host of other psychoframe combat applications.
In U.C. 0097, the Psycho Package was once again brought to the fore by Luio & Co. who managed to uncover the technology by sifting through captured Titan data centres. The Psycho Package was cobbled together from leftover Psychoframe materials and fitted onto the original RX-9 Narrative Gundam to combat the II Neo Zeong.
