Galan Mossa's Geirail managed to kick some ass during the short period of time it was on-screen, but it was the Geirail Scharfrichters in the background that proved intriguing. With their saucer-heads, Zaku-style shoulder shields and khaki paint scheme, the Scharfrichters drew more attention than their green-blue leader, and having a name like Scharfrichter (German for Executioner) doesn't reduce its badassery.
Although it was shown as a disposable grunt in the series, the Geirail Scharfrichter managed to show off some of its moves and caused some trouble for the protagonists, almost killing Hush Middy in his Shiden. This shows that even if the Geirail is an outdated mobile suit frame, updating it to modern standards and putting it in the hands of seasoned veterans is worth more than a newbie piloting a brand-new contemporary machine that was developed from intensive research (i.e. the Shiden).
The Geirail Scharfricter Heavy is a variant of the Geirail frame, outfitted with more than double the weaponry found on the standard Geirail Scharfrichter. With area dominance in mind, the Geirail Scharfricter Heavy is armed with a shoulder-mounted semi-automatic cannon that is modified from the Geirail's handheld rifle, a mass produced, clip-fed, gas-operated 190mm long rifle, a pair of shoulder-mounted claw shields, a pickaxe for close-combat encounters, a shield-axe for ultra close-combat and an optional giant mattock for mopping up operations. This loadout allows the Scharfricter Heavy to stay on the battlefield for extended periods, relying on its weaponry and high mobility accorded by the back-mounted land hover unit to harass foes with guerilla tactics.
