Fictional Lore 
The "production" model of the RX-78-1 Gundam, the final deployed version of the first unit of the RX-78 line bore a distinctly militaristic colour scheme composed of dull shades and tones, allowing it to operate in most combat environments.

While the RX-78-1's armaments are kept relatively unchanged from the prototype version, the beam rifle is now equipped with an underslung Super Napalm launcher as standard equipment, providing the already formidable RX-78-1 with a deadly anti-personnel option. The high temperatures generated from the napalm allowed the RX-78-1 to literally cook enemy pilots in their cockpits, the flammable liquid sealing cockpits shut while also removing oxygen.

The RX-78-1 sortied with the regular complement of two beam sabers for close combat but was able to use a beam javelin for missions that necessitated use of a more effective weapon to defeat heavy armour. The pointed shape and concentrated nature of a beam javelin allowed for greater penetration rates into mobile suit and mobile armour alloy, causing immense amounts of localised damage to the target. However, the weapon was hard to use, impossible to master and was only effective in the right hands under rare circumstances, which meant that the classic beam saber still saw the most action on the battlefield.

The RX-78-1 was ironically the most advanced model of the entire RX-78 series of high performance close combat mobile suits despite its age, equipped with all the latest technology such as a refined learning computer as well as the newfangled magnetic coating on its joints. In the hands of a skilled pilot (or a Newtype), the mobile suit was able to singlehandedly wipe out platoons of enemy mobile suits and regular troop formations with its fearsome arsenal. While not as flashy as the second unit in the series, the RX-78-1 is still very much a deadly force to be reckoned with in the 21st century.
