It has been quite a productive year, especially during the Circuit Breaker!
In 2020, I completed 50 model kit builds: mostly with my own two hands but some with assistance from budding hobbyists who wanted to get their hands dirty - so to speak - without any financial commitment (yet).
While the year had been tough on everyone with the pandemic and other global developments basically turning our world upside down and inside out, our favourite plastic crack has served as an anchor and sanctuary to the madness of life, providing some respite, however brief.
I hope to be able to find more time to do up more model kits in 2021. But at the very least, I will likely continue constructing box forts.
As we approach the final days of 2020, it's worthwhile to take a look back at what has been a very different year. While a plethora of global developments have paused or severely disrupted life as we knew it, there were still plenty to be thankful for.
Here are the top 5 #Gunplanerd Moments of 2020!
In the early part of the year, we ran a very successful #CircuitBreakerBacklogChallenge to help local builders tide through our version of a lockdown to contain the spread of the coronavirus. With attractive prizes sponsored by like-minded partners, the Challenge unearthed many diamonds in the rough who were content to build beautiful kits for only their own personal enjoyment and sought no fame or fortune.
A collaboration was also cemented with local online hobby store Chimpo Hobby early this year to provide more builders with affordably-priced model kits and also to lower the barriers of entry for new builders. I'm happy to know that Chimpo is now shipping worldwide, a testament to the passion and enthusiasm he has for this little hobby community that we're a part of.
Sometime in the middle of the year, a collaboration with #Uniqlo was ran. Both Gunpla 40th Anniversary UT Collection T-shirts as well as the limited edition model kits were given away, sharing a piece of Gunpla history with fellow builders. This was also the first time I had to handle so many sets of the same model kit at once and it was a learning experience, to say the least.
In the 4th quarter of 2020, I finally moved into my new place, a brand-new apartment that my wife and I co-created. The Gunplanerd Gallery took shape in this new place of residence, becoming my permanent display, work and storage area for all things Gunpla. After two decades in the hobby, my sizeable collection has a proper home at long last.
