[Kit Insight] Bandai HG 1/144 RX-78-2U Gundam [Uniqlo Beyond Global Ver.] - Painted Build

Model Number: RX-78-2U
Designation: Uniqlo Customised Close Combat Mobile Suit

There is no better way to commemorate the Gunpla 40th Anniversary than with a groundbreaking space-age High Grade 1/144 scale model kit!
The HG 1/144 RX-78-2 Gundam [Beyond Global] model kit is the latest rendition of the venerable White Devil, released into a vast sea of High Grade Gundam model kits saturated with formidable predecessors such as the always-dependable Revive, the spectacular G40 and The Origin versions of the RX-78-2.

While the Beyond Global's proportions can be too progressive for some with its thick thighs, slim shins and generally more lithe appearance, the sheet amount of engineering and design thinking that went into this model kit is very apparent. The build process is delightful, with generous part and colour separation throughout the relatively quick build.

The joints here are nice and tight - a little too tight in areas like the hips and feet - which give the Beyond Global an amazing level of articulation that is definitely on par (if not slightly better) with the G40. The joints can pretty much go wherever you want them to go, closely mimicking the human body's range of motion.

I went with the colour scheme for the RX-78-2U Gundam [Uniqlo Ver.], a novelty item issued with purchase of the latest range of Mobile Suit Gundam UT collection T-shirts (Singapore will get the collection soon, stay tuned). While the colours are much better on this year's model kit, the kit itself is from 2001, which is ancient by current standards. The Beyond Global does the anniversary justice with its fantastic and super-modern design.

Although the Beyond Global doesn't pack a boatload of accessories, its solid build and incredible articulation will definitely occupy your time for a long while.
